Out and About

Windermere is situated in the south of The Lake District and is an ideal location from which to explore not only The Lakes but many other places of interest in Northern England and Scotland.

regional_north_of_england If driving you can be in Yorkshire in about an hour via Sedbergh and the travel on through through the Yorkshire Dales for a lovely day out.

In under 2 hours you could drive north to the Scottish Border passing Carlisle on the way.

But if you want to explore more of the lake district you can do this on foot, by car, by boat or public transport.  mountain-goat-day-tours

Local Places of Interest

There are a number of attractions on and around the lake.





Brockhole Visitors Center offers activities for all the family including the new Treetop Trek Aerial Adventure.

BeatrixThe world of Beatrix Potter offers a warm welcome with something new for everyone.  See your favorite characters and try the interactive exhibits.  There is also a shop and tea room to visit.



Hill TopWhy not also visit Beatrix Potters home at Hill Top. It is still of her favorite things and looks as if Beatrix had just stepped out for a walk.




Windermere-Lake-CruisesOne of the most popular attractions in the area.  You can take a short cruise or try something longer.  the freedom of the lake ticket also allows you to jump on and off allowing you to visit other attractions on route.



lakeside_logoThis lovely steam railway runs for 3 1/2 miles through the Leven Valley and along the banks of the River Leven and can be accessed from the Lakeside stop from a Windermere Lake Cruise.


LAKESAQUARIUMLOGOHome of the largest collection of fresh water fish in the UK, the Lakes Aquarium is also on the shore at Lakeside.
